A Message from Scott Rembold, vice president for University Advancement

On behalf of University Advancement, I wanted to provide you with an update about the American Cardinals Dinner and the evolution of this event in concert with the growth of the University’s advancement program.

As you may have heard, the American Cardinals Dinner in its traditional form as a fundraiser for student scholarships is not taking place this academic year. This decision was made, in part, because the entire University was focused on preparing for the fall visit of Pope Francis. But it also reflects a greater transformation in our advancement program, which is departing from fundraising events and moving forward with a focus on building ongoing relationships with our individual donors.

From the first Cardinals Dinner in December 1989 in Washington, D.C., to the most recent this past April in St. Louis, it has always been an occasion to bring our community together. In its place, I am excited to announce a new program: the Cardinals’ Tribute Gala, which will be different in three distinct ways. First, there will be no charge to attend. Instead, all donors who have given $1,000 or more to the University over the past year will be invited as our guests. Second, it will be hosted by cardinals from archdioceses across the country. They, among others, will express their gratitude to our generous benefactors and help illustrate the University’s recent progress and accomplishments. Third, the event will take place on campus, which will allow us to showcase our deans, faculty, and students.

It is my hope that the inaugural Cardinals’ Tribute Gala, which is scheduled for June 6, 2016, will sustain the most important elements of the American Cardinals Dinner. That is to say, we will continue to bring together our friends and champions in celebration of our bright future and our cherished relationships.

Invitation to Attend Murphy's Opening Celebration
The Division of University Advancement and the Office of University Relations welcomes staff and faculty to attend Celebrating Murphy's: A New Beginning on Monday, March 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Pryzbyla Center. The event will include a short program and reception as well as a tour of the new Murphy's student lounge. Please save the date and join us!

The Division of University Advancement is 76.9% to our annual FY16 goal of $35 million. The fiscal year for the University ends on April 30.
