Retreats Offer Students a Chance to Develop Faith Life

The retreat program has been an imperative aspect of Campus Ministry’s outreach to students for more than a decade at Catholic University. Over 1,000 current students have spent a weekend away with Campus Ministry on Freshman Retreat alone, and that number only grows when you add in those who have attended one of the nine other retreats that are offered each year.

These retreats offer students a sense of community, a place to simply be and discover oneself, and a chance to respond to our Holy Father’s invitation to encounter Christ. At the start of his encyclical Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis writes, “I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them (EG, 3).”

Women’s Retreat, occurring this Nov. 13 to 15 at YMCA Camp Letts, will be the fourth Women’s Retreat that Campus Ministry has offered. Varying in camp locations and speakers (including nationally known authors and international television producers), every Women’s Retreat is an extension of the mission of women’s ministry to help CUA women know they are daughters of God, who loves unconditionally and has created them for unique and invaluable purposes.

Although this mission is a lifelong discovery and rediscovery, women’s ministry and Women’s Retreat create an opportunity for our students to encounter Jesus Christ and come to know who they truly are. This year the eight-woman leadership team has selected the retreat theme of “Overflowing” to guide talks and set the tone of prayer experiences.

Following the Women’s Retreat, Campus Ministry is offering a retreat Nov. 20 to 22 for CUA varsity, club, and intramural student athletes. This retreat, planned by the officers of Catholic Athletes for Christ, enables student athletes to get away from campus and their busy schedules to renew their faith through one another. This retreat focuses on how student athletes in particular can develop their faith life in the midst of practices, game schedules, and academics.

Campus Ministry also offers silent retreats for undergraduate and graduate students, Men’s Retreat, Senior Retreat, Mission Trip Retreat, retreats for student organizations, and others.
