Pope Francis Visits Catholic University

Office of Alumni Relations News

The Alumni Association was grateful to receive approximately 1,000 papal Mass tickets to offer to the members of our alumni community. The tickets were distributed through a random drawing, and more than 3,000 people entered their names.

While we wish we could have accommodated our entire alumni community (of more than 80,000 active alumni!), we were grateful that some could join us in person for the Mass and that many joined us remotely, tuning in to the live stream and on social media. And we are overwhelmed by how many alumni and alumnae have been in touch in the past few days with words of appreciation and pride. Here are just a few of the messages we have received, and you can see more online here.

Advancement News

On Sept. 23, the Division of University Advancement hosted an afternoon luncheon before the papal Mass, honoring those who made leadership contributions to support the University’s efforts to prepare for Pope Francis’s visit. Trustees and donors were thrilled to have the opportunity to connect with one another and University leadership around this special occasion.

More than 300 individuals made gifts to the University, raising a total of $866,000.

Pictures of the gathering in Caldwell Hall are below. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this historic day, and encourage those who have not yet made a gift to do so today.

We would like to extend our appreciation to our papal Mass benefactors: Enrique Segura, University trustee, and his wife, Alejandra; The Catholic League; and Vincent Sheehy (B.A. 1951, L.H.D., 2004) University trustee emeritus, and his wife, Helen.
