New and Revised University Policies

By Vin Lacovara, CUA compliance and privacy officer

University policies tell us the right course of action when we engage in specific University activities. The policies below were adopted or significantly revised recently.

Co-Curricular Scheduling Policy – This policy was revised to require individuals or departments reserving space in University facilities to use the University’s central scheduling software. In addition, all departments overseeing campus spaces that are used by other University departments must enter the characteristics of those spaces in the centralized scheduling software system. All members of the University community should be familiar with this policy.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy – This policy was revised to clarify that marijuana use is not permitted on campus, even if otherwise legal under local law. All staff and faculty employees should be aware of this policy.

Laboratory Safety and Security Policy – This policy was revised to include greater emphasis on laboratory safety requirements for those working in University laboratories, to emphasize the requirement to complete appropriate laboratory safety training, and to clarify roles and responsibilities in order to promote safety in University laboratories. All members of the University community who work in laboratories should be familiar with this policy.

Reserve Funds Policy – This is a new policy that delineates the purpose for departmental reserve funds, how those funds are created, and how they can be spent. All staff or faculty involved in budgeting for or spending such funds should be familiar with this policy.
