Dealing with Sexual Violence

By Vin Lacovara, CUA compliance and privacy officer

The University recognizes its profound responsibility to create and sustain an environment that is safe for all members of the University community. Pursuant to that responsibility we continue to improve and refine our policies related to sexual violence. Members of the University community should be aware of the recently revised Sexual Offenses Policy.

The revised policy describes in greater detail the types of sexual offenses that should be reported, such as sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and sexual harassment. The revised policy also describes which employees are required to report suspected sexual offenses, how the University addresses the privacy of individuals involved in reports, and how to speak with someone about sexual offenses in a confidential setting.

All members of the University community — staff, faculty, and students — should be familiar with this policy and with their individual responsibility with respect to suspected sexual offenses.

Questions about sexual offenses and the Universitiy’s policies, procedures, and resources can be posed to Lisa Wood, the University’s equal opportunity officer/Title IX coordinator (tel. 202-319-5598, TITLEIX-COORD@CUA.EDU, Leahy Hall 170) or to Dean of Students Jonathan Sawyer at tel. 202-319-5619.
