Giving Tuesday and #Unselfies

Tomorrow, Dec. 2, the Division of University Advancement will be celebrating Giving Tuesday. We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And, since 2012, we have a day dedicated to giving back: Giving Tuesday.

Giving Tuesday is a countrywide effort — held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving — to create a national day of giving to kick off the giving season. In honor of the day, University Advancement is encouraging students, parents, alumni, staff, and faculty to come together to celebrate generosity and to give back to the University.

It is simple. Just make a gift to Catholic University — big or small —and celebrate this new tradition of generosity. Our goal this year is $10,000 and every contribution makes a difference.

Once you make your gift, please let us know via social media. Many members of the campus community have shown us their #GivingTuesdayCUA #UNselfie photos and shared why they are motivated to give.

Frank Persico, B.A. 1974, M.A. 1976, vice president for University relations and chief of staff, says, “I give to CUA because I know the money is not a ‘drop in the bucket.’ I know it is put to good use and has a direct impact.”
Senior Bess Tracey says, “I chose to give back because Catholic University has given me so much. I’ve made amazing friends, I’ve learned so much, and I want to give back to the place that has shaped who I have become.”
Dean Pat McMullen of the School of Nursing says, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” (It's on her T-shirt, too!)
Katie Jennings, senior associate dean of students and director of campus activities, says, “I give because I want to help students explore their interests at CUA!”
Chris Pierno, B.A. 2011, says, “I give to CUA because, as an alumnus, I believe it is my duty to support this exceptional institutional, which changed the course of my life and the lives of so many others. With the support of our alumni, parents, and friends, Catholic University can continue to provide life-changing experiences for years to come.”

How do you #UNselfie? It’s easy!

  1. Take a “selfie” with a caption (or have it on a card in the picture) explaining why you are giving to CUA this year.
  2. Use the hashtags #UNselfie and #GivingTuesdayCUA
  3. Post it to Instagram, Facebook, and/or Twitter and share with friends! @CUAalumni will repost!
