Let’s Get Ready for Open Enrollment!

It is that time of year again. As we get ready to enjoy the gorgeous fall weather, it is also time for the annual CUA employee open enrollment period for benefit selections. This is the one time during the year that you can make changes to your benefit selections, such as add/drop eligible dependents, change benefit elections, or enroll in or change a Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account without a qualifying status event. To help you navigate the process, the information below should be beneficial.

We all know that insurance costs continue to rise, but once again we are happy to announce that there will be no increase to the medical insurance premiums. The great level of benefits will remain the same. However, there will be a change in the start date of the CUA benefit plan year. We are returning to a Jan. 1, 2015, start date for the benefit plan year. Last year’s plan began on Dec. 1. This change in the start date will have no impact on benefits or deductible amounts, just as the change in the plan year start date for the last open enrollment did not impact benefits.

There will be two open enrollment periods this fall.

The first open enrollment period is only for employees who are anticipating the opportunity to make changes effective Dec. 1, 2014, for example, those who are planning on dropping their insurance coverage on Dec. 1, due to having other coverage, or those who were planning on adding or dropping a dependent from the plan on Dec. 1. If these examples apply to you, please contact the Office of Human Resources no later than Oct. 10. If you were not anticipating making changes such as described above for Dec. 1, you do not need to do anything prior to Oct. 27.

Our regular open enrollment period runs from Oct. 27 through Nov. 9. You will be able to make your benefit plan selections through CUA’s benefit enrollment system at You will be required to re-enroll for your benefits, even if you made the changes as outlined above, if you wish to be covered effective Jan. 1, 2015. If you do not go through the enrollment process at, your current benefit selections will terminate as of Dec. 31, 2014.

I encourage all employees to take advantage of the open enrollment events to ensure you have all the information you may need to participate in the online open enrollment process.

Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
All sessions will be held in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, Rooms 321/323

Open Enrollment Computer Lab

Come to the computer lab in Leahy Hall, Room 100 (Conference Room) Monday, Nov. 3, through Friday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Knowledgeable staff will be there to assist you in the online process of enrollment.

Annual Benefits Fair

Free seated massages, raffles, vendor displays, oh my! All staff and faculty are invited to attend the fair on Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Caldwell Auditorium.
