Open Enrollment is Coming Soon!

By Christine Sportes, associate vice president/chief human resources officer

Before you know it, 2013 will be here. Are you ready to make your 2013 benefit plan decisions? Have you considered all your options when thinking about your plan choices for the new year? For the upcoming benefit plan year, starting Jan. 1, 2013, CUA benefit-eligible faculty and staff will once again have a variety of options when choosing their benefits. For 2013, you will have a choice of three medical insurance plans: the United Healthcare Basic Plan, Silver Plan, or HSA (Healthcare Savings Account) Plan. You are encouraged to attend one of the enrollment information sessions (dates are mentioned below) to learn about the plan options for 2013.

Aside from medical insurance options, CUA benefit-eligible employees will have the following options from which to choose:

  • ‘New’ Met Life Dental insurance plans
  • Vision plan
  • Flexible spending accounts, with important changes for 2013
  • ‘New’ supplemental life insurance offering
  • Legal services plan
  • Pet insurance

Don't miss this year’s benefits fair, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center Great Room. Open enrollment benefit booklets will be available for pickup during the fair, which will offer opportunities to meet with benefit plan representatives as well as free seated massages. Employee flu shots will be offered during the annual benefits fair as well as on Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Pryzbyla Center, Great Room C. Open Enrollment Period
The actual period for enrolling in the 2013 benefit plans will start on Thursday, Nov. 1, and conclude on Thursday, Nov. 15. During this time, benefit-eligible employees will actively enroll using the Benefits Express online enrollment process or a telephonic alternative. As a reminder, all CUA employees who are benefit-eligible must re-enroll for the 2013 plan year (re-enrollment is not an automatic process). Additional direction on the enrollment process will be forthcoming.

From Monday, Nov. 5, through Friday, Nov. 9, the Leahy Hall conference room will be available to employees who would like assistance with the online enrollment process. Staff will be available to assist CUA employees each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
