Here we are, back after the long holiday break and ready to take on the New Year! As you set your goals for 2010, be sure you include some “wellness goals” to serve as the foundation for everything else you plan to do this year and in future years. Setting wellness goals involves, in part, establishing your baseline or knowing your numbers. Knowing these numbers will serve as your guide to measuring whether or not your wellness initiatives are aiding you in improving your overall health and wellness. From an overall health perspective, knowing the following numbers is a way to understand where you are today:
Body Mass Index
Many serious health conditions develop over time but can be prevented or delayed if you know your risk factors and make healthy changes. The upcoming Know Your Numbers wellness program kickoff event on March 4 will help you better understand your health risks through participation in screenings at the event. The Know Your Numbers event is for employees only (those who are actively enrolled in any of the United Healthcare plans offered by CUA), while subsequent offerings of health assessment and online/telephone-based health coaching programs are for both employees and their covered spouses.
How to prepare for the event: Participation in the Know Your Numbers screenings will require advance sign-up — watch for upcoming information regarding the online sign-up process. There’s no need to abstain from food or to fast prior to the event. Please bring your health insurance card to the screenings — this will allow United Healthcare to upload your health results data to your personal health record on myuhc.com.
The Know Your Numbers event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, in the Great Room of the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center.
