As we draw another year to a close — my 10th as president of The Catholic University of America — we can truly celebrate the great things that have happened here on campus since last August. You have had ample opportunity to read about them in this publication and on our Web site, and to hear about them on campus. We have been truly blessed during the academic year 2007-08.

Enrollment continues to climb; university fundraising exceeded last year’s totals by $7 million, making this the best fundraising year in history; Opus Hall is near completion — the first of three new residence halls; South Campus development proceeds with great promise for the future of CUA and Brookland; the campus looks more beautiful than ever; another class of undergraduates, graduate students and law school students await the conferral of their degrees. We end this year on a high note.
My sentiments as I conclude this decade of service continue to be ones of gratitude: gratitude to God for blessing us so generously; gratitude to our Board of Trustees and our benefactors and alumni for sharing with us so generously; gratitude to our faculty for offering themselves and their gifts so generously; gratitude to our administration and staff for serving so generously; and gratitude to our students for choosing CUA and for living and learning here so generously.
I thank you all. Please keep safe during the summer months, take some well-deserved vacation, and come back refreshed to continue the tradition of “Reason. Faith. Service” here at The Catholic University of America! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
