New Initiative Urges Campus Energy Conservation

As consumers deal with a 30 percent rise in natural gas prices this year, CUA's facilities managers have been strategizing ways to offset higher heating costs. A new campaign, “The Power Is In Your Hands,” kicks off this semester, encouraging students, faculty and staff to do their part to conserve energy. See story.

A World Traveler Settles Down at CUA

Mary Paterson, the new assistant dean of undergraduate programs and associate professor in CUA’s School of Nursing, has settled in at Gowan Hall after a series of assignments in countries around the globe.  She’s worked to help health care professionals in more than a dozen countries, including several post-Soviet nations, Egypt and, most recently, Iraq.  See story.

The Lion, the Witch and Walton Hall

The days when J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and their contemporaries would gather in Lewis’ Oxford University rooms for fellowship and critique may be long gone, but love for their writing lives on in CUA’s residence halls. A group of seven undergraduates have dedicated their thematic housing group to the study of the British writers’ work. See story.

Father O’Connell reviews significant January events and activities and points to some recent CUA success stories. See the president's column.

“CUA On the Move”

Now that your New Year’s resolutions to get in shape might be starting to lose steam, CUA’s “On the Move” campaign makes it a little easier to walk toward your fitness goals at work. Using a "fitness-friendly" campus map, check to see how many calories you can burn on your walk to the Pryz, the third floor of McMahon Hall and several other campus destinations. See story.
