She appeared on the Feb. 24 Christian Broadcasting Network program “News Story” discussing the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.

Monsignor Brian Ferme, dean, participated in a March 2 live interview with the Voice of America (Washington, D.C.) radio network’s “Talk to America” program for half an hour about the implications of having a pontiff in office who is in danger of being incapacitated due to poor health.
He was a guest on the March 24 WUSA-TV (Washington, D.C.) program “Morning Show,” and discussed the health and legacy of Pope John Paul II.
He also spoke about the pope on the March 28 Voice of America radio program “News Now Press Conference USA.”

Diane Bunce, associate professor, appeared on the March 10 WTTG-TV (Washington, D.C.) program “Fox 5 Evening News” and discussed safety measures taken by chemistry teachers to protect school students and personnel from the hazards of mercury.

Robert Mahony, professor, was quoted in a March 10 USA Today article about a recent murder in Belfast, Northern Ireland, by suspected members of the Irish Republican Army. The article also ran in the March issue of Black Enterprise Magazine (New York), the March 11 Herald-Dispatch (Huntington, W.Va.), and the March 11 Yahoo! Robert Destro, professor, was interviewed March 22 by the Los Angeles Daily Journal about the case of Terri Schiavo, the brain-damaged woman in Florida whose husband and parents battled in court over her feeding tube before her death.
He also participated in an interview about the case March 29 with the Associated Press.
Michael Noone, professor, participated in a Feb. 22 Yakima (Wash.) Herald-Republic interview about an Air Force airman stationed in England, who is being discharged because he refuses to work on the Sabbath.
He participated in a March 2 USA Today interview about a lawsuit alleging violation of constitutional rights filed against U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld by Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Alexander Russo, assistant professor, participated in the March 13 Irish Radio RTE-1 (Dublin, Ireland) program “This Week” and discussed the departure of longtime television anchor Dan Rather from the CBS Evening News, and the state of U.S. television news.

The March 19 Washington Post offered a laudatory review of the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music production Albert Herring, which was staged March 17-20.
Theology and Religious Studies
William Dinges, associate professor, was quoted in a Feb. 17 National Catholic Reporter (Kansas City, Mo.) Web article about pressure put on Catholic diocesan social directors by activist Catholic groups during the 2004 U.S. presidential campaign. A Feb. 16 CUA lecture on “blue-state” and “red-state” Catholicism given by Dinges also was mentioned. The article was picked up by the Feb. 17 Catholic World News (South Lancaster, Mass.).
Dinges also was quoted in a Feb. 28 Catholic News Service article about a Feb. 18 CUA symposium titled “Ministering to Young Adult Catholics,” presented by CUA’s Center for American Catholic Studies.
John Grabowski, associate professor, was quoted in a March 22 Associated Press article about the teachings of different religions on end-of-life issues, such as the Schiavo case. The article ran in dozens of papers across the country.
He also was interviewed about the Schiavo case by The Miami Herald on March 23.
Monsignor Kevin Irwin, the Walter J. Schmitz Professor of Liturgical Studies, was interviewed March 29 by the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times about how often communion should be administered to a person who is incapacitated and dying. His interview was used for a story about Terry Schiavo.
CUA in General
A group of 21 CUA undergraduates who built houses for poor Floridians during Spring break — as part of a Habitat for Humanity program — was featured in a March 3 (Melbourne) Florida Today article.
Catholic University was mentioned as a co-sponsor of the Opera Institute for Young Singers, a summer training program for high school students, in a March 3 Washington Post brief.
March 10 and March 14 conferences on Christian-Jewish relations, each co-sponsored and hosted by CUA, were mentioned in March 14 and 15 Catholic News Service articles, respectively.
The March 21 issue of Monday Morning magazine (Beirut, Lebanon) ran an article noting that CUA conferred an honorary doctorate on Cardinal Nasrallah Peter Sfeir, patriarch of the Maronite Church, on March 15, during his visit to Washington, D.C., to advocate independence for Lebanon. Two Lebanese TV networks also covered the ceremony.
